The producers of the indie horror movie “The Tunnel” decided to benefit from BitTorrent Inc.’s Artist Spotlight program and put their film in the hands of more than 100 million users of the file-sharing client.

BitTorrent Inc. keeps adding content to its Artist Spotlight program. Today one of the most popular BitTorrent applications is used for release of the indie film “The Tunnel”. This award-winning movie is directed in “Blair Witch” style, telling the story of 5 journalists chasing a story about tunnels in Australia. The film producers are now taking advantage of BitTorrent’s immense distribution power, offering the movie to over 100 million file-sharers.

Instead of getting engaged in a so-called “short-sighted” fight against file-sharing networks, the independent movie producers took the decision to benefit from the power of peer-to-peer networks. Smart producers today are embracing the possibilities that the world of file-sharing brings, and that’s precisely what “The Tunnel” creators did. They believe that if they stop fighting the P2P networks, it may become the biggest revolution ever happened in the world of entertainment and data sharing.

BitTorrent Inc. made their dream come true, and “The Tunnel” became the first movie ever to be released on TV, DVD and BitTorrent at the same time. The film producers feel really excited about their cooperation with BitTorrent Inc. and its support of independent content creators. The scale of the issue is very impressive, because the BitTorrent technology enables a direct connection to a massive audience throughout the world. These days, P2P networks are undoubtedly a new and exciting distribution path for indie moviemakers.

In fact, “The Tunnel” is quite an impressive movie, and people would want to see it. It happens sometimes that independent film producers underestimate the need for a good plot, but in this case the creators managed to avoid this mistake.

“The Tunnel” is not the first work released within the Artist Spotlight program. Earlier, the band Sick of Sarah and writer Megan Lisa Jones also decided to take advantage of BitTorrent community. The band released their album “2205?, which has already surpassed 1 million of downloads, and the author released her novel “Captive”, which accounts for over 450,000 downloads thus far.
