I have much respect for sikhs following 'Five Kakkars' but I am put off when some of them try to impose their opinions on others,Sikhi is much more then the physical appearance of a Sikh.

Who said cutting beard is against Religion? Sikhism stands for greater things such a fighting injustice, being truthful, not believing in superstitions.. don't associate Sikhism with Keeping Hair and being Vegetarian. If a Hindu keeps hair would he become a Sikh? When I was young I kept hair just because I did not think about cutting it.. does that mean I was more of a Sikh then?

This is the sacred thread of the soul; if you have it, then go ahead and put it on me.

ਨਾ ਏਹੁ ਤੁਟੈ ਨ ਮਲੁ ਲਗੈ ਨਾ ਏਹੁ ਜਲੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
naa eaehu thuttai naa mal lagai naa eaehu jalai n jaae ||
It does not break, it cannot be soiled by filth, it cannot be burnt, or lost.

ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਮਾਣਸ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜੋ ਗਲਿ ਚਲੇ ਪਾਇ ॥
dhha(n)n s maanas naanakaa jo gal chalae paae ||
Blessed are those mortal beings, O Nanak, who wear such a thread around their necks.

ਚਉਕੜਿ ਮੁਲਿ ਅਣਾਇਆ ਬਹਿ ਚਉਕੈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
choukarr mul anaaeiaa behi choukai paaeiaa ||
You buy the thread for a few shells, and seated in your enclosure, you put it on.

ਸਿਖਾ ਕੰਨਿ ਚੜਾਈਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣੁ ਥਿਆ ॥
sikhaa ka(n)n charraaeeaa gur braahaman thhiaa ||
Whispering instructions into others' ears, the Brahmin becomes a guru.

ਓਹੁ ਮੁਆ ਓਹੁ ਝੜਿ ਪਇਆ ਵੇਤਗਾ ਗਇਆ ॥੧॥ {ਪੰਨਾ 471}
ouhu muaa ouhu jharr paeiaa vaethagaa gaeiaa ||1||
But he dies, and the sacred thread falls away, and the soul departs without it. ||1||

Krishna's other name was Keshav. Keshav mean lengthy hairs wala.
Ram supported Juda on his head. All Rishi Muni's, even Jeses has long hairs.
Long hairs is attached to the spirituality of Sikhs, not only sikhs, other religions too.

Yes, you are right. I guess Sikh religion shuru to hi bohat stirct raya hai. .......... it up bro....

I never claim to be very religious, or be a true sikh.. in fact as I previously mentioned I was not even allowed to call myself a Sikh because I cut my hair.. (I never took offence in it and applied as "other") .. It does not matter to me what you call me.. it will not make me less of a person or more of it.. I am just saying that people should not concentrate on the outlook to the extent that they neglect other teachings. I appreciate that you choose to transform yourself and become more religious.

I have always referred to God as Guru.. so that i will continue to do.. maybe I should start saying that I believe in God but not in religion

And I am sorry if people like me are making it difficult for real Sikhs to be able to answer to others. I will try my best to make it easier for them by refering to myself as being from a Sikh family and not being an actual Sikh.

I agree, Hair is not the only criteria. Alongwith Kesh, there are other aspects too, for example Helping needy and Dasvandh. If one maintain Kesh and outer appearence but losses other aspect then also he is not a Sikh.

To be honest, if we treat Sikhi just as any other religion. Then there are billions of Sikhs arnd (including me and you).
If we see Sikhi as a way of living life (Guru ji di Rehat Maryada) then they will be few (you and me will be surely not in that list).

Par ik changi gal aa hai ke,
Guru chae ta patit da v udaar ho jaanda. :)

Main ta aap Patit te Manmukh aa, par try karda rehna ke shayad mera v udaar ho je. Baki ta oss di marji, jo hona.

This Sehajdhari definition and all other stuff are political. Medical college di seats bohat mehangiya hundiya te taan karke aa definition badli ja sakdi aa.

"rehni rahe soi sikh mera"

means jehra rehni (reht maryada) ch rahe ohi mera sikh hai..

par kehri reht maryada?

sab tau pehli (first, most important, and prime) reht eh hai ke khade de pahul lae ke guru de charni laggo.... baki reht maryada baad ch automatically follow ho jandiya ne...

jihne prithm reht hi ni manni oh gurmukh nahi manmukh hai....

jinne marji logic de dayo mere pyare bharavo te bhaino... par je guru di reht maryada ni manni, te samjho assi sikh bane hi nahi...

why we guys always blame politicians.... bhave badal ke hon bhave congrassiye te bhave koi hor...

Dhillon ji hor galla te main kuch nahi kehna, coz aa akali (i mean badalkiye) ki karde aa, ki nahi. I do not believe and trust any of them. Aj SGPC ohi boldi jo SAD(Badal) kehndi aa. May be aa kal nu fer definition change kar den. Dharam is a politics for them.

Par jiss Guru Ram Das ne Amrit da Sar (Amritsar) banaya, Guru RamDas Chak Nagar sirjya ohna nu v amritdhari hon lai haje hor v kuch proof dena pena si?
Oh ta aap amrit dekar gaye sareya nu. Dujjeya nu Amrit da Sarovar ohi de sakda jehra aap Amritdhari hove.

Sanu ehje comment to bachna chaeeda jitthe appa bina soche samjhe apne Guruan Peera baare kuch v likh daiye. Te naal tusi sentence complete nahi si kita Sehajdhari/Amritdhari Sikh.

If we read your complete sentence it will be Guru Ram Das and Baba Farid, jihna de naam te institute & university hai, je mud aan ta uhna nu bhi admission ni milni, as neither of them was Sehajdhari / Amritdhari Sikh.

yo miss jatti kaur, u obviously don't respect sikhi, so stop trying to make up excuses. If u don't want to be a sikh then dont, dont go talking crap. anyone can make random excuses aight. only a sacha sikh will keep his hair and follow the teachings of the gurus without bragging.

Sat Sri Akaal Ji Saareya Nu, I read throughout da whole thread, saareya de barre hee interesting views/opinions lagge...te mainly discussion "Keisaa" te chall rahi aa, i personally think ke appearance does matter...it's part of our identity as sikhs...te main eho article ik vaari pehllan v sanjhi keeta c te hun ik vaari fer sanjhi karn ja rahi aan...shayad parhan toh vaad tusi samajh sakko iss gall nu ke Sikhism ch, ik Sikh hon di ki definition ae...its only a part of it though.
I read this article in a panjabi newspaper, Dastaar Kyon?. It's about a young boy, who asks his mother why he needs to wear a turban..uss da mann-na eh hai ke Sikhi uss ne kamauni ae, uss de keisaan ne nahi.

Maa ne aggeyo jawab ditta, "Mere bache, school uniform ne thoro jaana hai, parhna te tu hai, dimaag tera, eh uniform wala arrikka kyon?" Baccha aggeyo gusse 'ch kehnda hai, "Hadd ho gai Maa, Discipline vi akhir koi cheej hai".

Maa ne aggeyo jawab ditta, "Taan fer dass mere bache, Guru Ji da ditta discipline arrikka kiyon? Tere ser te banndhi Dastaar, doh gaj kaprra nahi, eh Guru Ji wallon tere discipline vich shaamil hai..."

bai baaki galla paasse , je koi banda apna pehchaan jehri ohnu pagg to mildi aa , jisnu ek nazar ch vekh duja banda samjh jaunda ki aah banda sikh aa , ohnu hi tussi hatado te tuhadde ch te us bande ch farak ki reh gaya !?
