interesting post...here are my 2 cents.
01. Yes, mirza sahibaan were muslim but they are related to punjabi folk not sikh folk or muslim folk. The reason they are sung in punjab are because the story was published/orignated in punjab. Pakistan has 3 times more punjabi speakers than india punjab. I agree to extant that it is not the best thing you can teach your kids but the truth is there is far worst stories sung in punjabi songs today. I went to attend a wedding in punjab couple of months ago and i was so surprised by the choice of songs dj was playing in a family gathering...everyone was okay with it. We don't do that here in the us...i have made dj change songs during family gathering cause it simply isn't comfortable in a family setting. May be in a club but not at someone's birthday...gosh.
02. Sahibaan was his cousin sister but muslims do marry their cousins. I recently learned so do bhape sikhs (disgusting i know) but ethics my brother are relative to culture.
03. Rest of the points to raised are circumstance based. If a reader is interested in that kind of reading material, how would you keep them engaged. My guess is doing something in the story which no one has ever done (for that time).

I am not here to argue but just say few things...you can't control the world but you have some influence over your own family and friends. If you think you want to make a difference, teach them what's right and wrong, so they can decide even when they see other people doing it or hear it in songs. Singers are in business of making money; not in business of teaching your kids whats right from wrong.

main is point te agree aa sir ji ki tales nu religion base te convert nai karna chahida but mera main point kise khas religion te attack ni aa ise relegion cho hi sai mia meer ji hoye ne jina ne darbar sahib di neeh rakhi .....so we must grab positiveness from someone's culture not negativity
