CHANDIGARH: Failing to revive a dying relationship, a 22-year-old killed himself on Tuesday. He took a plunge in the Sukhna Lake after the girl
he loved refused to patch up with him. And all this happened before the eyes of another one, whom he wanted to help mediate.

According to police, a student of Lincoln College of Law, Sirhind, and a resident of Sector 45, Vikas Kashyap, had an affair with a Bathinda-based girl, who was living here as a paying guest at Sector 35. But their relationship had hit the rocks. On Tuesday, he tried to make last ditch effort to revive it with the intervention of one of his friends, Ritika. However, when he did not succeed, he ended his life.

In her statement, Ritika said Vikas was her senior in school. She added that he met her near her college in Sector 10, and asked for help in sorting out things between them. She said they then reached lake on Vikas’ motorcycle and took a boat. “He made me talk to her by calling from his mobile with the speaker on,” Ritika added that he was insisting on her coming back into his life, and the girl continued to refuse. “Before I could realize anything, he got up and jumped into the lake,” she added. Shocked, Ritika said, “He was threatening her that he will commit suicide, but I never thought he would actually do so.”

A man, who was boating a few meters away from the spot, saw Vikas jumping into the lake and informed the cops. Swinging into action right then, cops could fish out the body only at 4 pm, four hours after the incident. The body, which was immediately taken to GMSH-16, will be handed over to the family after postmortem.

Vikas’ father Mohan Lal Kashyap, who works with LIC, said he had an idea that his son was having an affair, but he was not aware of his predicament.

ASP (central) Madhur Verma said they are in process of verifying statements. Meanwhile, SHO North, Har Sahai Sharma said they will not call the Bathinda girl to testify the statements. “But it all depends on how inquiry shapes up, as of now the situation is clear,” he added.

it's sad that even a law student can be so stupid selfish and cowardly. His death accomplished 3 things: (1) the fulfillment of his selfish desire to end his pain in such a cowardly manner (the manlier way would have been to face his pain) (2) he took a son away from his parents, and (3) he stupidly tried to guilt the girl he claimed to love.... idiot na hove te :n
