Emboldened by the way the BJP leaders raised the issue of Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal’s alleged involvement in the multi-crore commercial booth allotment scam in Parliament, the city BJP plans to intensify their protest to press for his resignation.
“We will organise ward-wise protests against Bansal every week. A series of public meetings would also be held to apprise the general of public about rampant corruption prevalent in the city during the tenure of the Congress,” Sanjay Tandon, president of the city BJP unit, said. “Bansal is putting forward baseless facts and there is no point in questioning the inquiry as it was marked by Punjab Governor and City Administrator Shivraj Patil,” BJP leader Satya Pal Jain said.
“The party is preparing a chargesheet against Bansal and would release details soon to expose Bansal,” said Jain. “We are gathering proofs against Bansal and we would not let him escape from the situation. He has been named in an inquiry done by the former official of the City Administration and the inquiry cannot be overlooked.” Bansal is indicted in the booth allotment scam by the inquiry officer PS Shergill, the city’s former additional commissioner. He is accused of protecting the “booth mafia” and assisting them to flourish in the city.
Bansal’s confidant Pradeep Chhabra, who is a Congress councillor and former Mayor and bureaucrats including UT Advisor to Administrator Pradip Mehra, former DC RK Rao, officers of UT Estate Office and senior police officials have also been indicted in the report. “We have already asked for Bansal’s resignation and a criminal inquiry into the matter to be conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation,” Jain said.
