Chandigarh March 17:
Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari defended Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Basal, accused in the multi-crore booth allotment scam, saying that he did not need to resign, as he had clarified his position in Parliament.
“The charges against him are baseless. There is no point seeking his resignation at all,” said Tewari, while addressing the mediapersons during an interaction. “The charges against him are politically motivated,” he added. Meanwhile, former Mayor and Congress councillor Pradeep Chabra filed a criminal complaint against Punjab Civil Services officer and former Chandigarh Central SDM PS Shergil for allegedly defaming his image and personality by dragging his name into the booth allotment scam.
The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate JS Sidhu would now take up the case on April 6 when the complainant would produce evidence in support of his complaint. In his complaint, Chabra has alleged that Shergil has made unwarranted and false remarks against him in the “illegal and biased report”.
