Dara Shikoh Cured




Dara, the elder son of Emperor Shãhjahan( 1627-1658 AD.) fell ill. Inspite of the best efforts of Hakims. he could not be cured. The rare medicine needed for his ailment was nowhere available. Information reached the Royal Hakim that required medicine was available with Guru Har Râi (1630-1661 A.D.). He came personally to the Guru Sahib and requestcd for the medicine. Guru Sahib gave him the rare medicine required for the treatment and also sent a pearl which was to be ground into fine powder and taken with the medicine.

The Healing Touch Of Guru Sahib




When Guru Harikrishan Sahib (1656-1664 AD.) came to Delhi the city was then in the grip of an epidemic. Guru Sahib went all over the the city even in narrow lanes and by,lanes. He gave succour to all in anguish without any discrimination whatsoever. His very presence and the Divine Look would rid the patients of their sufferings.

Guru Sahib Cures Suffering Lot




Guru Harikrishan ascended the ecclcsiastical throne at the age of 5 years and 8 months. He was blessed with the divine spirit. When Guru Sãhib came to Delhi, the city was in the grip of an epidemic. Guru Harikrishan went all over
the city. He gave solace to those in anguish. His very Divine Presence and the Divine Look would rid the patients of their maladies.

The Mutual Conflicts Result In Utter Destruction


Guru Tegh Bahadur (1621-1675 AD) brought about peace between Raja Chankardbawaj of Asam and Raja Ram Singh. As a result the fighting forces of both Räjãs erected a monument of peace with their weapons lying down thereby vindicating the Guru's exhortation that hatred divides arid love unites; and all disputes can be settled through mutual discussions and peacefull negotiations.

Bhai Mihan Sãhib


Bhai Râmdev a devoted disciple of Guru Tegh Bahãdur served water to the sangat with devotion and zeal. He also served the Great Guru whenever he went out by sprinkling his path with water to settle the dust. He thus earned the epithet of Bhãl Mihan Sahib Ji'

Guru Tegh Bahadur And Kashmiri Pandits



A delegation of 500 Kashmiri Brahmins led by Pandit Kirpa Ram met Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib at Anandpur Sahib. Pandit Kirpa Ram told the harrowing tales of torture initiated by the orders of Aurangzeb (r. 1658-1707 A.D.), for convertting them to Islam. Guru Sahib was mentally occupied with the issue when the child Gobind Rai happened to be there and asked as to what was the matter. Guru Sahib told him that the sacrifice of some Great Soul is called for. "Who else than you can serve the cause'? Was child Gobind Rai's spontaneous reaction.

Rangreta : Guru Ka Beta


Guru Tegh Bahadur made the supreme sacrifice to protect the religious freedom of oppressed Kashmiri Pandits. Guru Tegh Bahadur's head was severed from his body by the executor at Chandani Chowk, Delhi in 1675 A.D. There was great consternation and confusion. At that time, Bhai Jaita, a devoted Sikh came forward and picked up Guru's severed head swiftly, covered it respecthilly and slipped out of the crowd. He struggled hard and managed to reach Anandpur Sahib and laid the sacred head respectfully in front of Guru Gobind Singh (1666-1708 A.I).). The Guru embraced Bhai Jaita and said RANGRETA - GURU KA BETA: Rangreta is the son of the Guru.

All Human Beings Are Equal




The moment child Gobind Rai was born in Patna, Pir Bhikhan Shah of Thaska offered his prayers facing East instead of towards the West contrary to his daily practice. He left for Patna immediately. On arrival at (Guru's) residence, Pir placed two bowls of milk and water before the divine child. The new-born Divine Being put his hands on both the bowls thus signifying the entire humanity springs from the same divine fountain: How can some be good and others evil.

Above Avarice




Child Gobind Rai, once, happened to throw gold bangle in the Ganges. On an enquiry by the diver where the gold bangles had dropped into the water, he (Guru) flung into the river the second one at the same spot saying, There ! Steel is more sacred", was the Guru's edict.

Buddhu Shah : A True Pir




During the battle of Bhangani in the year 1689 when 400 Pathãn warriors had deserted Guru Gobind Singh, it was Pirr Buddhu Shah who stood by him steadfastly. Two of his sons, younger brother and nephew fell in the action. After his victory when Guru Gobind Singh wished to present a Siropa' to Pir Buddü Shah, the latter only expressed a desire to be blessed with the Guru's hair entangled in his comb. Guru Gobind Smgh honoured him and proclaimed Buddü Shah as a true 'Pir'.

Mata Sahib Kaur The Mother of Khalsa



Guru Gobind Singh recited the sacred hymns and churned the holy mint at Anandpur Sãhib on March 30, 1699, as he prepared to initiate the Khalsã. His Mahal, Mata Sahib Kaur, poured sugar-plum into the vessel. By this gesture. the symbolized the humility and sweetness which were to be the essential traits of the martial order of the Khalsà. Matà Sàhib Kaur was designated by Guru Gobind Singh the mother
of the Khalsa Panth and she guided from Delhi its affairs after the Guru's passing away, at Nader, on October , 1708.

Langar Bhai Nand Lal



Institution of langar is an integral part of Sikh tradition. All the Gurus gave great importance to it and made langar the joint responsibility of the Sikh community so that every body is served food without any discrimination. During Gurus period langar was also served at the homes of Sikhs. Such langars were run at Anandpur Sahib during the time of Guru Gobind Singh where all the visitors were supposed to be served even at odd hours.
One day Guru Sahib personally inspected all the 1angars and found langar run by Bhai Nand Lal the most well maintained where Langar was available to the pilgrimage at all the hours. Guru Sãhib found that no hungry person was ever sent back at any hour. Bhai Nand Lali was a great Sikh theologian and an eminent poet. He was infact the Poet Laureate at Guru Gobind Singh's Darbãr.

Hard And Soft Hands


Guru Gobind Singh Sàhib once declined to drank water offered by a wealthy youngman because he had never served the Sangat When the young man brought water, the Guru discovered that his hands were soft and tender. Answering the Guru's query the youth confessed that he had never done any work with his hands to serve others. He was overtaken by a sense of shame and guilt and vowed before Guru Sahib to help the needy and the suffering people.

Helping The Helpless



Guru Gobind Singh wanted even handicapped to overcome their disabilities He even taught several of his blind disciples the art of music and made them expert at instruments, such as, Tabla, Saranda, Rabab and Taus. The Guru bestowed his blessings on the handicapped without discrimination.

Guru Amar Das Ji Fetching Water

Guru Amar Das Ji Fetching Water




(Guru) Amar Das Ji filling water in a gagar (brass pitcher) from the river Beas early in the morning for Guru Angad Dev Ji to bathe with.
(Guru) Amar Das ji took up residence at Gowindwal at the request of Guru Angad Dev Ji. Early each morning (Guru) Amar Das Ji would fill a gagar of water and walk all the way to Khadur for Guru Ji's bathing. Then would walk all the way back but never turning his back towards Guru Angad Dev Ji. Thus (Guru) Amar Das Ji served Guru Angad Dev Ji for twelve years.

Creation of Baoli Sahib


Devotees bathing in Baoli Sahib
A Baoli is a staircase leading to water. The Baoli Sahib was contructed by Guru Amar Das Ji after Sikhs were prevented from fetching water from a local source. The digging started in 1556 and completed in 1559. The Baoli Sahib was completed with 84 steps.

Guru Ji was a great social reformer. Guru ji eliminated class distrinction through the institututions of Sangat and Pangat. No one could gain an audience without first partaking of food in Guru-ka-Kangar. Guru Ji stood for the emancipation of women. Guru Ji forbade the practice of pardha, the veiling of women.Guru Ji prohibited 'syapa', the beating of breasts by women on the death of a relative., instead he exhorted all to sing Gods praises and accept his will. Guru Ji forbade the practice of 'sati', in which widows burnt themselves on the funeral pyres of their dead husbands.
