We faked 'Made In India' drugs: China admits its cos' involvement

NEW DELHI: China has admitted that its pharmaceutical companies were involved in shipping fake drugs labeled 'Made In India' to Nigeria.

"The Chinese authorities have accepted this position (that its firms were involved in the case)," an official said.

"The Indian government took up the matter with the Nigerian authorities and on further probe, it was found that the drugs had actually originated in China and not in India," he added.

In June, Nigeria's drug regulatory authority National Agency for Food and Drug Administration And Control (NAFDAC) had reported about the detention of a large consignment of fake anti-malarial generic pharmaceuticals labeled 'Made in India' which were actually produced in China.

Following the incident, India took up the issue with China fearing that this could damage the reputation of the 12-billion-dollar Indian pharmaceutical industry in the global market.

Though, China had assured of investigations in the matter, Indian authorities were not given any time frame.

India has asked its missions in the region to step up vigil for protecting the nation's image and market.

Chinese chocolates banned in India: Govt :y

NEW DELHI: India has banned import of chocolates and chocolate products from China, commerce minister Anand Sharma told the Lok Sabha .

India had banned import of milk and milk products from China in September last year and the ban has been extended to chocolate and chocolate products, he said during Question Hour.

Sharma said the ban was imposed after it was found that some dairy products imported from China contained melamine, consumption of which is harmful for humans.

He sought to assure the House that international food standards were being "rigidly" adhered to while importing food products from all countries, including China.

Similar action was taken on import of toys, which contained high lead content, he said.

"Only those toys that meet international standards are being allowed to be imported to India," he said.

Sharma said China had raised the issue of Indian restrictions on import of Chinese toys at the WTO Technical Barriers to Trade Committee in March and June this year.
(As china toys is already banned in many europe countries becase of toxic substances found in them)
China had mentioned that these restrictions on import of Chinese toys were discriminatory and in breach of the WTO rules, he said.

India had clarified that it had imposed a ban on Chinese toys on grounds of health and safety of children.

On concerns raised by members on Chinese mobile phones flooding Indian markets, Sharma said there is a ban on sale of handsets that do not have the International Mobile Equipment Identification (IMEI) number.

"Already, imports of mobile phones that do not have IMEI number have been banned," he said.

Sharma said the ban on mobiles that do not have the IMEI number was imposed on July 16 this year.

China blocking sanctions against JeM chief, India gives info
With China blocking UN Security Council sanctions against Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar, India has provided detailed information
to it about his involvement in terror activities and hopes Beijing would support the move.

The issue figured during the talks between Special Representatives -- national security adviser M K Narayanan and Chinese state councillor Dai Bingguo -- here last Friday and Saturday.

"We have shared with China the necessary information and our assessment about Masood Azhar," a source said but refused to specify whether the material was provided during the talks.

"India and China have similar concerns with regard to terrorism and we hope China will support the move to proscribe Azhar by the UN Security Council," the source added.

India is making efforts to get Azhar along with LeT terrorists Azam Cheema and Abdur Rahman Makki banned by the Security Council in December last year.

Azhar, founder of JeM outfit, is one of the three terrorists freed by India in exchange for hostages of Air India plane IC-814 which was hijacked in December 1999.

China has been blocking the effort, arguing that it did not have the necessary information about Azhar's involvement in terrorism.

Britain had earlier joined China in blocking the move but agreed to support after India provided information.

India now hopes that China will support the move, particularly in view of the recent unrest in Xinjiang province whose source is believed to have been in Pakistan.

The UNSC Resolution had put a ban on Jamaat-ud-Dawa, declaring it as a front for LeT which was held responsible for the Mumbai terror attack.

Afterwards, an effort was made to get Saeed proscribed by the UNSC but it was blocked by Britain and China, which wanted it to be put on hold.

Break India, says China think-tank
NEW DELHI: India may have survived doomsday predictions — once a favourite pastime of the West — of its balkanization but that does not seem to have
deterred the Chinese. On Tuesday, New Delhi took exception to an article on a quasi-official Chinese website, which boasted that the “great Indian federation” was ripe for dismemberment if Beijing tried just a little.

Posted on April 8 on the website iiss.cn (International Institute for Strategic Studies), the article detailed a roadmap for breaking up India. “To split India, China can bring into its fold countries like Pakistan, Nepal and Bhutan, support Ulfa in attaining its goal for Assam’s independence, back aspirations of Indian nationalities like Tamils and Nagas, encourage Bangladesh to give a push to the independence of West Bengal and lastly recover the 90,000 sq km territory in southern Tibet,” the write-up said.

The article claimed that India as a nation never really existed in history. >haha chinese mind sucked after eating, rats, dogs, cats, cockroach and other insects

“...China in its own interest and the progress of whole Asia, should join forces with different nationalities like Assamese, Tamils, and Kashmiris and support the latter in establishing independent nation-states of their own, out of India,” the article said.

The ardent hope has been sought to be justified by using the rhetoric of change. “Only after India has been broken up into 20-30 pieces will there be any real reform or social change in the country,” stressed the article meant for Chinese audience.

Hopes of a rebellion by Tamils may appear outlandish, but the article serves to corroborate fears in India about Beijing’s gameplan to encircle India in alliance with regimes in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal, of its support for Ulfa and other insurgent groups in northeast and its designs on Arunachal Pradesh which the Chinese insist on referring to as south Tibet. Not amused, India’s foreign ministry cautioned China, asking it to express opinions “after careful judgments based on the long-term interests of building a stable relationship”.

Seeking to hold Beijing to its official statements, an MEA spoksperson said the article “appears to be an expression of individual opinion and does not accord with the officially stated position of China on India-China relations conveyed to us on several occasions, including at the highest level, most recently by state councillor Dai Bingguo during his visit to India last week”.

Over 400,000 suffer from water shortage in China woooooooooooow

Hundreds of thousands in China's northeast Liaoning Province face shortages of drinking water because of a severe drought, a local news channel reported on Saturday.

Continuous drought parched at least 43 small-sized reservoirs, drying up crops and cutting the water supply of up to 120,000 livestock across the province, state media said.

Around 420,000 people are struggling to get access to drinking water, with more than 12,000 residential wells depleted. The insufficient water supply has forced many residents to sell livestock to reduce water consumption, state media said.

About 52 percent of total farmland was affected by the drought, a local news agency reported.

The local government has disbursed more than 100 million yuan (14.2 million USD) for the catastrophe, the state television said.

In China, about 30 million people in the countryside and more than 20 million in urban areas face drinking water shortages every year despite huge government investment to address the problem.
