Symantec reintroduced the Norton Utilities bundleof system utilities in early 2009. It had been melded into Norton SystemWorks, but Symantec decided it wasn’t clear enough for the consumer, so broke it out again into its own separate product. Today, the security vendor has released a new version sporting version number 15.0, which reintroduces three utilities that shipped with the original.
The three new utilities users of Norton Utilities from the early days may recognize are as follows:
Speed Disk: Defragments and reorganizes files and data that have become scattered across a hard drive so they can be found and loaded faster, resulting in quicker startup and file access times and more free disk space to store files.
Disk Doctor: Scans hard drives and alerts users to physical problems that can cause hard drives to crash. It also scans for and repairs directory, file, and other common disk software problems that can cause computer errors and system crashes.
UnErase Wizard: Quickly restores accidentally deleted files that may be hidden on a hard drive.
They join the following existing utilities included in the previous version:

  • Registry Cleaner
  • Registry Defragmenter
  • Registry Monitor
  • Startup Manager
  • Service Manager
  • Disk Cleaner
As well as the standard Norton Utilities, Symantec is also offering a Premier edition. This simply adds a one-year subscription to Norton Online Backup allowing for 25GB of cloud backup storage.

Both editions are available to buy now in the U.S. with the standard edition costing $49.99, and the Premier edition set at $79.99. Norton Utilities will run on Windows XP 32-bit, as well as Vista and Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit editions.
