Sikhs’ ceremonial daggers now allowed in Toronto courthouses

Toronto has become the first city in Canada to develop a formal policy allowing Sikhs to bring their ceremonial daggers into its courthouses. The kirpan, which is a stylized representation of a sword, will be allowed in public areas of Toronto courthouses subject to certain conditions. For instance, the court officer must be informed the person is a Khalsa Sikh, which is an initiated Sikh, and that they are carrying a kirpan.

The kirpan, which has an exaggerated curve at the end, must also pass the metal detector. The kirpan has a tip and can have a sharp end much like a pen or pencil. The total length of the kirpan, including sheath, may not exceed 7.5 inches with a blade of not more than 4 inches. In addition, the kirpan must be worn under clothing and not be easily accessible. The kirpan is often described as a dagger, which it resembles, but Sikhs say that description is misleading. It is an important article of faith, representing spiritual wisdom and the duty to stand against injustice.

“The risk of the kirpan being used as a weapon has been virtually eliminated,” Balpreet Singh, legal counsel for the World Sikh Organization of Canada, told

^^ It happens change is not easily acceptable, plus understand there mindset. For them kirpan is just a weapon and allowing weapon for specific class is partiality.
Need is of spreading awareness and winning their confidence by doing good deeds.

^^ totally agree. But these white folks constantly complain. These people have forgotten their roots...how they use to live 120-150 odds years ago. With their fore-fathers carrying weapons as well. Before the 1900's everyone in Canada were carrying weapon/guns.
Hindu veer's complain. But if you look at their God's/Godness!! everyone carry's a weapon.
Shera Wali Mata...none of the 8 arms are empty.
Shiv..with tarshul.
Krishan...he has a charkra weapon...
Vishnu...
ram...he is carrying weapon..
hanuman...he is carrying a weapon...
The only god who isn't carrying a weapon is Bramha...
Many people are totally lost with their traditions and values......Don't know why are the after Sikh.

Kirpan is not a weapon, its just a symbol and one of 5 K's.
The small sized kirpan which every baptized sikh wears, should not be classified as weapon. It is blunt 4 inch blade and sheathed to the robe.
Papeweight in offices, paper cutter in school/colleges, thin copper wires can cut hand or even slit throat, knife & fork on restraunt table, or even batteries used in cellphone could be more dangerous then kirpan.

^^ Agar Kirpan Weapon nahi pher ki hai? It has both defensive & symbolic functions. Hain eh sach hai hun sri-sahib 2.5 feet to 4-5 inches reh gayi...rather than being sharp...its a blunt object. Par Guru Ka Sikh Taiyaar Bar Taiyaar Hona Chaahidaa Hai. To battle with 5 baikaar in his/her mind and to battle in the real ground. Har ek gursikh nu shashtahri hona chahidaa. Every Gursikh needs to know how to do the following...and its a must. Bus Amrit Chaak Liya Zimmerwari Mukh Gayi...attitude is the worst.

-Guru Granth Sahib da parkash te sukh Aahsan
-Need to know how to read Gurbani
-Kirtan or Daadh
-Degh (Kraah Parshaad) Taiyaar Karni
-Langar Taiyaar Karna
-Ghatka..Teer Andaazi..and training with modern weapons
there is more in the list..but these are the main important ones.

bhaji please clear karo, kehra hukamnama yaa kehri Sikh Rehat Maryada kendi ke aa utte likhi list honi jaruri aa?

Tusi kende Guru ke Sikh nu bikaraan naal larna painda, ki ohde lai Sri-Sahib di lor paindi?? Bikaraan nu vadan vali teg ta Bani ch aa.
Rahi gal ground te battle karan di, honestly tell me in last 50 years kinniya battles kirpan naal lariya gaiya except jameen de kabje, nihanga di aapsi ladai, gurdwareya diya pardhaangi di battle.

Its the reality, Kirpan today is more like a symbol, just like kara. Jaade weapon weapon naa kaho, kal nu agleya ne aah v ni paan deni.......Syaane kehnde hathyar ohi hunda jo samay ser vartya je, ohdo tak symbol hi aa. bas tusi samjh jo, samjhdar nu ishara hi bohat hunda.
