RS 7.25 LAKH FAKE NOTES SEIZED, FIVE HELD

Jalandhar May 6:
The police here have seized counterfeit currency worth Rs 7.25 lakh while arresting five accused, including a former terrorist and a woman who happens to be a postgraduate in English.
SSP Arpit Shukla while addressing a press conference said the accused were arrested by cops of special staff in a well-knit operation supervised by SP (Hq) Satinder Singh when the counterfeit currency was being given by kingpin of the racket Sukhchain Singh of Khumania village in Amritsar district to three of the accused in Payal Bhatia’s, the woman, car at Dussehra Ground.
The other two accused included Ranjit Singh of Amritsar and Binder of Bakhlor village in Nawanshahr district.Sukhchian, Ranjit and Payal of Ludhiana were arrested by a police party led by special staff in charge SI Angrez Singh. Binder managed to escape but the police nabbed him from the PAP Chowk on Monday.
The SSP revealed that Sukhchain was having links with KCF chief Paramjit Singh Panjwar, who was currently living in Pakistan and a Pak national, Bashir, supplied him the fake currency. He said Sukhchian was facing 10 cases of RDX recovery and bomb blasts and after remaining behind bars for quite some time was released in 2006 and had started operating in fake currency.
He said another accused Resham Singh was arrested from Appra vilage and counterfeit currency worth Rs 1 lakh was seized from him. Meanwhile, Payal’s involvement has bewildered the police. The SSP added that she had earlier been arrested under NDPS Act by the Ludhiana police and had remained in jail. She was reportedly related to a smack smuggler.
