Rs 2.5-lakh heist at Rajouri Garden temp

NEW DELHI: A temple was ransacked and looted by burglars who stole goods and cash worth Rs 2.5 lakh in Rajouri Garden in west Delhi early on Monday morning. The Lord Shiva temple situated at Deriwala Bagh area in Subhash Nagar in Rajouri Garden is a renowned temple in the area with worshippers flocking throughout the day.

According to the police, when the trustee of the temple, Surendra Pahwa reached the temple with the head priest in the morning, he saw the back gate broken and the temple ransacked.

"Nine crowns of the idols, two umbrellas, all made of silver and cash from the dan patra were stolen. This is the first such incident in this area and we have registered a case of burglary. Further investigations are on," said a Rajouri Garden police officer. Pahwa said that it appeared like an insider’s or a neighbour’s job, someone who knew the temple very well.
