Ricky Martin killed in Car accident on a freeway in Los Angeles, CA.
Multi-platinum artist Enrique Martin Morales, known by the stage name "Ricky Martin", was killed at 4:30 pm eastern time while driving his BMW convertible car on a freeway in Los Angeles, CA.
The singer, actor, and author was born in Puerto Rico in 1970, he became rapidly a famous star in the country and gained a lot of fame with his talent and his good looks.
A wreck on highway 5 snarled traffic for hours and left the artist dead and sent three other to the hospital. Officers told reporters before 5 pm Saturday a silver BMW stopped after a crash on the southwest freeway.
"There was a very slow moving vehicle in the left lane of the freeway and when the BMW came over the hill, it was right in front of him and it tried to avoid it", said sergeant Hall with the HPD accident division.
Martin, who authorities believe was going over the speed limit, was driving a brand new BMW car the artist had just purchased some weeks ago, eye witnesses testified that Ricky lost control of the car at the moment he tried to swerve erratically to avoid hitting a slow moving vehicle, causing spinning and slamming to the retaining wall on the 5 freeway causing his body to be thrown out of the vehicle and hitting head first the ground causing his death.
The BMW also burst into flames upon impact. Ricky died at impact and the other 3 people that were injured were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, they are expected to be okay.
"It was horrible, we have been sitting here in the road for 2 hours", said a witness to the crash.
The car was also impacted by another vehicle after the initial impact, Ricky was officially declared dead on the accident scene by the paramedics who arrived a short time later to assist with the crash.
Authorities would not comment on the details about the accident other than to confirm the identity of the victim, rest in peace Ricky Martin.
All lanes of the freeway were shut down for about 3 hrs, making other drivers to exit the freeway.
Martin was 43 years old. News about the death of the famous star will be brought as we get more information about it.
A video was sent to our studio by a witness saying that his car camera actually recorded the moment of the accident where Ricky passed away.
