The Punjab Government has set in motion the process of promotions and recruitments under various categories in the Education Department thereby fulfilling its promises made to the teaching community.
Disclosing this here today, Dr. Upinderjit Kaur, Education Minister Punjab said that 14000 teachers would be recruited before the onset of this academic session 2008-09 and with this backlog as well as jobs on compassionate ground were also being taken care of.
The Minister said that out of 9998 ETT vacancies advertised, 8856 job offer letters had been issued so far and remaining 1143 posts would also be filled after second scrutiny of applications received. Besides job letters for 4000 B.Ed teachers would also be issued till 30th April, 2008. She advised to the fresh appointees to report within a week time regarding their acceptances of jobs otherwise waiting candidates would be considered to accomplish the recruitment process at the earliest.
The Education Minister pointed out that as many as 449 masters had also been promoted as lectures and 1800 more would be promoted within a week. Besides, instructions had already been issued for the promotion of Lecturers as Principals within this month.
The Minister further added that in elementary schools Head Teachers and Centre Head Teachers had been promoted as per the vacancies whereas 197 ETT and 197 JBT teachers were also being recruited to clear the backlog in various handicapped categories. Besides this 171 Block Primary Education Officer (BPEOs) would be promoted by the next week and remaining 55 vacancies of BPEOs related to direct quota would be filled by the government soon.
Dr. Upinderjit Kaur said that total 116 jobs letters had already been handed over during three special camps to the beneficiaries of employees who died in harness and the fourth such camp would be organised within the next few days. The education officers have already been directed to hold such special camps quarterly to clear the backlog in compassionate cases.
The Minister said that entire selection process had been completed in a transparent manner and all selections were being made purely on merit basis. It was the firm commitment of the Chief Minister Punjab S. Parkash Singh Badal to fill up the vacancies in priority sectors and provide jobs to the unemployed youth of the state.
The Education Minister further said that to give a thrust for imparting quality education in rural sector, the state government had earmarked 351 senior secondary schools in the state by selecting three schools from each constituency for upgrading the educational infrastructure. These schools would be provided with better infrastructure facilities like new class rooms, science laboratories, boundary walls, facilities in playgrounds, safe drinking water etc. at a cost of Rs. 142 crore during this fiscal year. Besides this 141 Adarash Schools one from each constituency would be opened in the state with the help of corporate houses, educational Trusts, Societies, NRIs etc in private partnership.
These schools would impart quality education and skill courses by offering free education to the poor and intelligent rural students. The Minister stressed that the Punjab Government was fully committed to make revolutionary changes in imparting quality education, state-of-the-art teaching methods and facilities to the teaching faculty so that Punjabi students could complete at national as well as international level. In this regard various developments were being made and more were under active consideration.
