President pratibha patil to visit pu on march 17

President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil is going to visit the Panjab University (PU) here on March 17. As per the information, she is going to deliver a lecture in the varsity. It has been learnt that President Patil will speak on the women issues, right to freedom, importance and violence against women.

Elaborate security arrangements will be made for the President's visit to the city. The police officials have started preparing the security plans and discussing the routes and necessary diversions in order to keep the security plan ready in another day. Over 1,500 police personnel are expected to be deployed across the city especially in and around the PU.

ARCHO begins at Architecture College: To mark the golden jubilee celebrations of the city's prestigious Chandigarh College of Architecture (CCA) in Sector 10, the college witnessed the inauguration of 18-day long annual mega event 'RCHO', celebrating the budding architects' passion for creativity and sports. Principal Prof Pradeep Bhagat inaugurated the fest and said: “Education and creativity are both important aspects of an architect's personality. ARCHO is a good platform for students to showcase their creative talents.”

The highlight of the function was the tree plantation drive, in which 150 saplings were planted by the students and teachers in various areas of the college in a planned manner. The evening witnessed a host of sports and cultural events, like volleyball, splash and like that in which students participated with gusto and zeal. The Houses also presented their respective Flag Designs which shall be their symbolic representations throughout the fest. CASA president Rachit Kaushal said: “The four houses, Ashoka, Kalinga, Kanishka and Maurya shall come together to compete for the various design, sports and cultural honours. A cultural evening shall wrap up the fest with performances of students in various cultural events.”

Practicals postponed: The practical examinations of BA and B Sc Part I, II and III of Punjab University scheduled to be held on March 15 have been postponed. The fresh date of practical examinations will be announced later. The students are advised to keep in touc with PU website. Italian fellowship for UIIT don: The in-charge of networking and faculty in University Institute of Information Technology (UIIT), Shimla, Prof. Dhirendra Sharma, has worked on technologies of wireless sensor networks for environmental monitoring system at Trieste, Italy, on fellowship provided by the Italian Government from February 28 to March 13. Prof Sharma also presented a paper in the international conference titled: 'WSN Implementation Model in the Western Himalyan Region in India: Environment Monitoring'.

Candlelight march: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) unit of the Panjab University (PU) organised a candle march in the varsity market on Monday as a mark of tributes to those killed in massive earth quake in Japan. It started from the university market and went upto the office of Prof RC Sobti, Vice Chancellor. Professional week at Gian Jyoti: Gian Jyoti Group of Institutions (GJGI) celebrated professionalism week on the campus from March 7 to 13. The main motive of celebrating professional week was to resolve the hurdle which may occur in student's professional life, in seminar different professional imparted new skills of management, so as prepare the outgoing graduates to be industry ready.

Chairman GJGI JS Bedi asserted that with such seminars, they can get academic knowledge as well as they can learn from the experience of professionals and can enhance their self esteem and can improve their confidence.
