Nokia launches Lumia 920 for Rs. 38199 & 810 for Rs.27,559

Nokia has finally launched its Windows 8 handsets, the much awaited Lumia 920 and 820 in India. Unveiled at a press conference in Delhi with simulcasts in Mumbai amongst other cities, the Lumia handsets will hit the major Indian cities tomorrow. Surprise, Surprise! The cheaper Windows 8 model Lumia 620 too has been announced too although it is expected only in early February.

The Nokia Lumia 920 will be launched for Rs. 38,199 and the Lumia 820 will be available for 27,559 officially. Major Indian cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai Kolkata and Hyderabad will see the Lumias as soon as tomorrow. Tie-ups with major carriers Vodafone and Airtel too have been announced. There has been no word on pricing of the accessories of the Lumia 920 and 820.

The Press Conference was announced with a cryptic title ‘Are you ready to switch’ that sent ripples of excitement through the Indian social sphere with speculations about what the impending announcement could be of. But, the Lumia handsets have officially been launched and are ready for India!

Packed in a polycarbonate body, the Nokia Lumia 920 features a Snapdragon S4 processor as well as a PureView sensor. It also comes with the Blink app, which is the smartphone's Burst mode. The Windows Phone 8 smartphone will feature an LCD display, which is a little better than the HD displays available now.

The Lumia 920 has 32GB inbuilt storage, an 8.7MP primary camera and a 1.2MP front one. The younger sibling Lumia 820 is powered by 1.5GHz Qualcomm S4 dual-core processor. It comes with an 8MP rear camera and a VGA front camera. Both phones support wireless charging.

The Lumia 820 on the other hand sports a 4.3-inch screen ClearBlack OLED display and comes with high brightness mode and Sunlight Readability Enhancements. The display features include - Polarization filter, Light time-out, Ambient light detector, Brightness control, Orientation sensor, Proximity sensor, High Brightness mode, RGB Stripe, Sunlight readability enhancements, Aspect ratio 15:9, Super sensitive touch and Color boosting. The super sensitive touch functionality allows you to use the handset even with gloves on.

The Indian version of the Lumia 920 will support nine 4G bands in India. The Lumia has an edge over its closest competitor, the iPhone 5 that supports only five LTE bands. The Lumia 920 is a pentaband WCDMA as compared to the iPhone 5 being a quadband.
For all those who want a budget-friendly Windows Phone 8 Nokia handset, the Nokia Lumia 620 has been announced too!

Nokia claims that Lumia 620's body uses a new dual-shot colour technique to deliver a variety of color and texture effects. Dual-shot adds a second layer of coloured, transparent or translucent polycarbonate on top of a base layer to produce secondary colour blends and depth effects. One can add a personal feel to the handset as there are seven different exchangeable shells to choose from. The Nokia Lumia 620 is powered by Qualcomm's SnapdragonS4 Plus processors. The pricing of the 620 will be announced closer to its launch date.
