Maruti Suzuki's Upcoming Cars in India

a. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Compact SUV
First unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, the Vitara is the production model of the iV-4 concept. Since the iV-4 shares its platform with the XA Alpha, it seems that the product coming to India will be the Vitara and not the XA Alpha. Also, now that Hyundai India has decided to bring in the ix25 compact SUV, which measures over 4 metres in length, Maruti Suzuki India might also consider launching the Vitara here. That said, those interested in mini SUVs need not worry since the company is already working on a different car that will be based on the iM4 concept. Showcased at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, the vehicle is expected to be launched in the second half of this year.

Expected Launch: Early 2016
Expected Price: Rs. 7 lakh - Rs. 10 lakh

b. Maruti Suzuki S-Cross
This is yet another product that Maruti Suzuki is betting big on, though the segment it will enter isn't as big in numbers as the others in the industry. Cars that we currently have in the hatchback-based crossover segment are VW Cross Polo, Toyota Etios Cross and Fiat Avventura. However, carmakers like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai, with some good products, can indeed generate volumes in this newly formed segment too.

The crossover will resemble the European S-Cross albeit with some exterior and mechanical updates. The SX4 S-Cross is expected to come with two diesel engine options - 1.3-litre multijet and 1.6-litre multijet. The company might also launch a petrol-engined model of the car at a later stage.
Expected Launch: July, 2015
Expected Price: Rs. 6 lakh - Rs. 8 lakh

c. Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire AMT
The company that launched the facelifted Swift Dzire earlier this year, is now planning to bring in the automated manual transmission (AMT) equipped model of the car this year. Just so you know, it's the diesel model that will get an AMT, the petrol already has a 4-speed conventional automatic gearbox. The car will feature the same gearbox that is found in the Celerio and Alto K10. Powering the vehicle will be the same 1.3-litre DDiS diesel unit that does duty on the manual diesel version.

d. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 7-Seater
The Wagon R 7-seater will be the company's first ever sub-compact MPV that will take on the Datsun GO+. Expected to be launched by the end of this year, the 7-seater Wagon R will feature the same 1.0-litre K-Series engine that powers the regular hatchback model. Though there is no clarity about its launch timelline, we expect it to come by the end of this year or at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo.

Expected Price: Rs. 4.5 lakh - Rs. 6 lakh

e. Maruti Suzuki YRA hatchback
This will be Maruti Suzuki's first premium hatchback in the country that will rival the Hyundai i20, new-generation Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo. The product was unveiled as a concept, the iK2, at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, and the vehicle has already started testing in India. Though the company hasn't officially revealed its launch plans, we expect its production-ready version to make its debut at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo.

Based on Suzuki's new-generation platform, the vehicle might feature the same 1.3-litre multijet diesel unit that powers several Maruti Suzuki cars in India. The petrol model, however, could feature be the same 1.0-litre turbocharged unit of the iK2 concept or the Ertiga's 1.4-litre K-Series engine.
Expected Launch - First half of 2016
Expected Price - Rs. 6 lakh - Rs. 8 lakh
