Jaundice cases rise in Solan; 9 more test positive

With nine fresh cases of jaundice coming to fore in Solan today the total number of such cases had risen to 170 in the district in the last one month.
A two-member team of virologists from Delhi visited the Regional Hospital here and collected blood samples of the patients who tested positive for jaundice. The team was assisted by Dr Rakesh Bhardwaj, State Programme Officer. The team also took into account the history of the patients.
They also collected water samples from Ashwani Khud sources for conducting various tests. Since a big segment of the local population drinks water derived from a water supply scheme from Ashwani Khud high incidence of jaundice was recorded in the town.
As many as 41 new cases had come to light in the last two days thus putting the district administration in a state of high alert. Medical Officer Health Dr NK Gupta confirmed that out of the 35 patients which were tested today for jaundice nine had tested positive in Solan.
He said they had stepped up their campaign to generate awareness among the people on how to protect themselves from jaundice. He said free testing facility was available in the Regional Hospital.
