Yuvraj Singh was omitted from the Indian squad for the ODI series against New Zealand while Stuart Binny found a place in the 16-man limited-overs squad announced by the Indian selectors.
Yuvraj, since his comeback to the Indian side, has had a string of low scores and has not done much with the ball either.
Apart from the 77 he scored in the lone T20I against Australia and the 55 in the 3rd ODI against West Indies, the all-rounder has not contributed much. India have also not been using the Yuvraj's bowling skills all that much this year, and the left-hander has only picked up two wickets in 2013.
Mohit Sharma, who had a torrid tour of South Africa, was also given the axe while the selectors included Varun Aaron and Ishwar Pandey.
Pandey also made it to the Test squad while there was no place for Pragyan Ojha. The 17-man Test squad had 6 seamers while R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were the spinners. Amit Mishra was left out of the Test team but he was included in the Indian ODI side.
Ambati Rayudu, who was part of both the Test and ODI squads for the tour of South Africa, was retained. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav also found a place in both the squads despite a mediocre tour of South Africa.
India's tour of New Zealand comprises of 5 ODIs and 2 Tests. The ODI series begins on January 19 and ends on January 31. Following that, India will play a two-day Practice game on February 2 after which they play the Tests which start on February 6 and February 14.
