Mumbai: Anxious Standard 10 students whose exam results were announced Friday have become even more tense over the college admission process that begins on Monday when mark sheets are available.

"Both children and parents are going through stressful moments since there is no clarity on the online admission process," says Nirmala Rao, Career Counsellor, who received over 100 calls in a span of three or four hours following the announcement of results.

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education announced the results of the Secondary School Certificate exam held in March. There were 1.46 million students from across the state who took the exam.

Only 76.06 per cent or 1.11 million students passed this year, with a pass percentage for girls at 77.54 and for boys at 74.78.

High suicide rate

Alarmed by the high number of suicides among youngsters in the past, the state government decided to put a stop on announcing the names of top scorers "since it turned out to be indirect pressure on students at that period of time," said a counsellor, Malini Shah.
