It is a known fact that Reliance Jio requires a full-fledged 4G LTE-compatible smartphone to run its 4G offering. But now, an unofficial attempt has been made to run the popular Reliance Jio 4G in a 3G phone. Here, the Jio SIM is used within the 3G handset.
As per MyMobilePlans, whose sources have claimed to have tweaked certain settings within a 3G-enabled Android smartphone, the following steps can be explored to use the Jio SIM-card within a 3G handset. However, before proceeding, do remember that these steps are unofficial and IBTimes India cannot be held responsible for any damage to the device during or after execution of these instructions, or if the desired functionality is not obtained:
Using Reliance Jio SIM within 3G smartphones incorporating Snapdragon SoCs
Step 1: Before proceeding with the actual tweaking process, remember that there is a pre-requisite, which requires you to obtain the Shortcut Master (Lite) application. You can navigate to Google Play to download the app. Then, install the app and launch it.
Step 2: After you open the app, find the Menu icon and select it to launch it.
Step 3: Within Menu, initiate a search for "Engineering Mode" or "Service Menu".
Step 4: After Step 3, choose "System App"; if you find this option not working, then search for Engineering Mode (as explained in Step 3), launch it and choose Change LTE Bands.
Step 5: In case the Engineering Mode does not work, launch the phone dialer and key-in *#2263#, choose Menu, tap Back and again launch Menu.
Step 6: After Step 5, input "0000" from the key input and wait for the Popup menu that should appear after a short wait.
Step 7: Once the Popup Menu appears, choose UE Settings. Then navigate to Settings > Protocol > NAS > Network Control > Band Selection > LTE Band > Band 40.
Step 8: After execution of Steps 1-7, switch off your phone, then place the Reliance Jio SIM within the first SIM-card slot and verify for network coverage signals.
