Honor launched its much talked about smartphone, the Honor 8 Pro in India today. The smartphone is priced at Rs 29,999 and will be available starting July 13 exclusively via Amazon India. At the launch event, an official from Honor confirmed to BGR India that the Honor 9 will receive the upcoming Android O update soon after its official release. The Honor 8 Pro runs on Android 7.0 Nougat with Honor’s custom EMUI 5.1 on top.

Going by its regular schedule, Google should release the 2017 iteration of its mobile OS, Android O by September. The first smartphones to receive the Android O update would naturally be the Google Pixel and Nexus series. Although an official timeline isn’t provided, the Honor 8 Pro should receive the Android O update before the end of this year. There have been more smartphones confirmed to receive the Android O update and these include the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 smartphones, and the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T.

The upcoming Android O will come with exciting new features, some of which can be experienced on the developer previews and the beta version. Some notable features include a new Notifications Channel which allows customizing notification for each app individually. More features that will arrive on Android O are Smart Text Selection that makes copying and pasting text an easier task, and Picture-in-Picture mode which will allow users to watch videos while performing other tasks at the same time.

Coming back to the Honor 8 Pro, the smartphone’s highlight is its dual camera module which is a pair of 12-megapixel cameras at the back with duo-tone LED flash, f/2.2 aperture, auto-focus, and 4K video recording capabilities. One of the cameras has monochrome lens to capture images in black and white, while the other has RGB lens to take control of color reproduction. Up front, the smartphone houses an 8-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture for selfies and video calling.
