Patna: After five days of an intensive hunt, the police on Saturday finally managed to nab the suspected "blade man" who had unleashed a wave of terror in Patna as he went about ruthlessly slashing little girls he found walking on the streets alone.
The police recovered four razor blades and a photograph of a girl from his pocket, with whom, police claim, he might have had a failed love affair forcing him to turn psychopath.
It was on the basis of the recovery of the blades and the photograph that the police believe the arrested 20-year-old youth is the ‘blade man'. Moreover, he was found dressed in black jeans, black shirt and a cap which matched the sketch released by the police on the basis of information given by victims.
The arrested youth was identified as Vidya Sagar. He is a commerce graduate at the local Guru Govind Singh College. He was picked up by plain clothes policemen from a tea stall in the Bihar capital, from an area where the slashing cases had been reported.
Unusual behaviour
According to the police, two of the victims have been able to identify him as the slasher.
Police claim the accused apparently turned a psychopath after a failed love affair with a girl whose photograph was recovered from his pocket during the time of arrest. Police believe that the youth went into depression and eventually began hating girls after his failed love affair. However, he did not reveal much information about the girl to the police.
"Prima facie, he [the accused] appears to be a psychopath. His behaviour and dressing sense, too, have been found unusual. The police were getting a lot of inputs about his activities, but nabbed him only after they were sure that he is the real culprit," Patna City superintendent of police Kim, who goes by only one name, told Gulf News. "He is the blade man," affirmed the police official.
However, his family members allege that Sagar has been falsely implicated in the case.
Sigh of relief
"My son works in a glass factory where the use of blades is quite common, but on the basis of the recovery of the blades, the police say he is the real blade man … he is innocent," said his mother Indu Devi.
However, the police heaved a sigh of relief after the youth's arrest. For the past week, the police have been on their toes hunting for the suspect, under pressure from the victims' families.
