Chandigarh May 3:

Punjab Government is mulling a special pay scale for the PCS officers, who were not promoted since long. The agenda would be put into the next cabinet meeting on May 13 for the approval, official sources said.

“Since Punjab Civil Services does not have any fixed criteria of promotion therefore a special pay scale has been decided to apply into their monthly salary. File has been prepared and ready to put into the Cabinet,” sources said. They said that the proposal came into consideration after the nod of the Chief Minster Parkash Singh Badal to boost the moral of such officers, who were overburdened with the additional charge due to the staff crunch.

As the assembly election drawing closer ruling SAD-BJP Government does not want to leave any stone unturned in respect of increasing the vote bank by announcing various schemes for the welfare of their employee. “The file would be clear into the Cabinet without any hurdle,” asserted the officer. The other issues which are likely to be table include Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal’s most ambitious proposal, Right to Service Bill which was pending since for the long time.

The proposed Bill had provisions of penalty against the erring officials if they were found guilty of lax services to the people. The Cabinet meeting held in February into which this bill could not be able to clear since its draft wasn’t completed. “There were certain concerns which need to be thrashed out now it is ready for the cabinet’s approval,” said a senior Government official. The promotion scale of Government employee after 4, 9 and 14 years of their employment are also in agenda of this cabinet meeting. The process of promotion scale had stopped after 2006.
