From being Bollywood’s eternal Tarzan to Television’s very own Hanuman, Dara Singh’s image has been etched into the hearts of many of his fans. But, with the actor being admitted to hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest a few days ago, his condition continues to be critical.

The 83-year-old actor, who began his career as a body builder and later went onto become a professional wrestler, is battling for his life in a Mumbai hospital as the medicines refuse to work in favour of the man, who refused to bow down to anything in his life.

And, with the actor oblivious to the world around, his fans are praying across the globe for his speedy recovery. And, remembering his work, we bring to you some of the unknown facts about his life.

  • Dara Singh was born in a small village of Punjab and his original name is Dara Singh Randhawa.
  • Known in the world of wrestling, Dara Singh became the Commonwealth Champion in 1959.
  • Later, when he stepped into film industry, Dara became the Action King of Bollywood in 1960s and 70s. One of his notable finds was the actress Mumtaz with whom he had performed in 16 Hindi films.
  • Apart from being an actor, he also directed and produced a few films. He also acted in National Award winner film ‘Main Maa Punjab Dee’.
  • The actor is also the owner of prestigious Dara Studio at Mohali, which was founded in 1978.
