Over the years, MAMI's sidebar Film India Worldwide (FIW) has been going across the globe in search for that intriguing film genre - one essentially international in concept and yet connects intrinsically with the Indian film scene.

In 2010, FIW presents five films that have been made by directors or producers of Indian origin settled elsewhere who look to a remembered homeland. There are also films made by international directors who increasingly turn to India for their creative inspiration. Collectively, these films represent a merging of international talent that span continents and cultures, triggered by a love and regard for India. These films provide a deeper perception of the immigrant world of cross-cultural lifestyles and preoccupations.

The FIW film package has always had a special place in a festival such as MAMI. Being held in Mumbai, India's film capital, they are viewed and enjoyed as cinema that is an extension of one's own country. More importantly, this genre is gaining distribution in India, and here MAMI offers them the invaluable venue and opportunity for distribution and sales.

Of the select five at FIW this year, one is a world premiere (the very first public screening to be held), two are international premieres (films so far screened only in their country of origin), and two are Asian premieres.
