Dynastic politics to the fore

It is always easier said than done in politics. Even though senior leaders have spoken time and again against the dynastic politics, they themselves have been caught on the wrong foot.
In the Bihar Assembly elections, top guns of many parties have fielded their sons and relatives from various constituencies. Former Chief Minister and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, known for dynastic politics, has fielded his sons Tejaswi Yadav from Raghopur and Tej Pratap Yadav from Mahua.
LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan’s nephew Prince Raj will wage an election battle from Kalyanpur constituency, while another leader of the party Mehmood Ali Qaiser’s son Salahuddin Yaruf is contesting from the Simri Bakhtiyarpur seat. On the LJP ticket, Pashupati Kumar Paras, who is the brother of Ram Vilas Paswan, is ready to for the acid test from the Alouli assembly seat.
The BJP is ahead of both the RJD and LJP as it has fielded its senior leader CP Thakur’s son Vivek Thakur from Brahampur. BJP leader Ashwini Choubey’s son Arjit Shashwat is contesting election from Bhagalpur. Another BJP leader Ganga Prasad’s son Sanjeev Chaurasia has been fielded from the Digha constituency.
Newly formed Jitan Ram Manjhi-led Hindustani Awam Morch (HAM) is not lagging behind in the race of dynastic politics. It has fielded Manjhi’s son Santosh Kumar Suman from Kutumba. HAM’s another leader Shakuni Chaudhary’s son Rajesh Kumar is contesting from Khagaria.
Party tickets to near and dear ones come at a price: discontent among the rank and file. However, like the dynastic politics, parties have become used to the revolt and discontent at the ground level and find it difficult to tread the difficult path.
“I personally believe in ‘one generation, one time politics’. Dynastic politics must be discarded as it severely affects and disheartens party workers. Dynastic politics can only be stopped if a party leader withdraws in case he/she wants to promote son or any relative. Also, promotion of family members on compassionate ground must be checked,” says senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Sanjay Paswan.
