Commuters, including school and college students, had a tough time today as commercial three-wheelers (Vikrams) remained off roads.
Vikram operators alleged that officials of the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Dehradun, were harassing them by imposing heavy challans. The Vikram operators gathered at Parade Ground and raised slogans against the state government. They alleged that they were being harassed by the Transport Department without any valid reason.
The agitators forcefully de-boarded passengers from the city buses on different routes in the city during their protest.
They said Vikrams operate under contract permit while the city buses operate under state carriage permit. They alleged that the RTO officials issued challans to only Vikram operators whereas the city bus operators were never challaned.
The Vikram operators have decided to continue their agitation if the Transport Department did not stop harassing them.
Meanwhile, the RTO officials said the Vikram operators were challaned as they were overloading their three-wheelers and transporting as many as 10 passengers against the sanctioned limit of seven passengers.
Residents who are living in the areas such as Prem Nagar, Shashpur, Doiwala, Gullarghati, Raipur, Rajpur, Indra Nagar, Seemadwar, Subhas Nagar etc. were among the major sufferers due to the protest of Vikrams on different routes in the city.
