Sahnewal October 4:
Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal charged Congress led UPA government for discriminating against the state by laying stringent and impractical conditions for waiver of Rs 70,000 crore debt accumulated during Punjab's fight against terrorism.
Talking to newsmen, after addressing rally at the foundation stone ceremony of Rs 70 crore project for 100 per cent water supply and sewerage coverage of the town, Mr Badal said the conditions imposed for debt waiver reflect the 'sincerity' of Central Government towards 'sword arm of the nation' Punjab.
He said that when farmers of the state does not impose any condition for contributing wheat and rice in national pool, why Centre government should impose condition for waiving the state's debt. He said that Centre had been drafting policies in such a way, to deliberately to keep out Punjab from its ambit, whether it was farm debt waiver or granting concessions to its neighbouring hill states.
