New Delhi: An 18-month-old boy, kidnapped by a domestic maid on Sunday, has been rescued alive by the local Delhi Police.
Five people have been taken into custody including two women, after police found their hideout at Badarpur on the Delhi-Faridabad border.
Announcing the recovery of the boy Ishaan, son of prominent Delhi businessman Vikram Singh, Police Commissioner B.K. Gupta said the kidnappers were planning to demand a ransom of Rs 20 million (Dh1.63 million). Those arrested included the maid, Seema, whose real name is Sarita Karketa.

The Singhs, who live in the wealthy area of Maharani Bagh in southeast Delhi, hired the maid 10 days before the kidnapping took place. The family had not got the mandatory police verification of the maid.
"All the accused were working in the Maharani Bagh area and had no criminal background," Gupta said, adding that the kidnappers had planned to keep Ishaan for about a month and then ask for ransom.
The child used to be taken out for a walk to the neighbourhood park every evening by Seema. Ishaan's parents became worried when they did not return and contacted police after failing to find them in the park and its surroundings.
The police formed 15 teams to trace Ishaan and his kidnappers and announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for information that would lead to an arrest.
If convicted, the kidnappers could face up to seven years in prison. Police say 551 children went missing from the capital this year, with April alone accounting for 176 such cases.
