Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has decided to defer the announcement of names for appointment as chairpersons of boards and corporations on account of the death of senior VHP leader Ashok Singhal. Sources said the decision was taken by Khattar in consultation with state BJP in charge and party General Secretary Anil Jain, who was in the city to hold consultations with party legislators.
“The announcement is generally followed by celebrations but in view of Ashok Singhal’s death it was decided to put off the announcement for a few days”, said a BJP leader. The VHP is an affiliate of the BJP’s ideological mentor, the RSS and both organisations have some common leadership.
The list of appointees was finalised in Delhi on Sunday and was to be released after Dr Jain and Khattar met all party MLAs and heard their views on various issues, including the functioning of the government. Party sources say the move has been put off at least by a day.
Dr Jain met the CM at his residence early in the day and was meeting BJP ministers and MLA when the news of Singhal’s death was flashed on TV Dr Jain had already met three ministers and about six MLAs but decided to postpone the scheduled meetings on hearing the news.
One of the agenda of the meeting between Dr Jain and the legislators was to get a feedback on the functioning of the government as well as asking them as to who they thought would be suitable for appointment as chairperson of various boards and corporations. However, The Tribune has already reported that the list was finalised in a closed-door meeting among Khattar , Haryana BJP president Subhash Barala, organising general secretary Suresh Bhatti and two RSS representatives.
