490 SIKH DEVOTEES REACH PAKISTAN

The first batch of 490 Sikh devotees went to Pakistan by Samjhauta Express from here to observe the death anniversary of fifth Sikh Guru Arjan Dev on June 16.
The trip of about 1,000 devotees to Pakistan has been arranged by the Shriomani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, apex religious body of the Sikhs. During their stay in Pakistan, these devotees are scheduled to visit and pay obeisance at various Sikh shrines at different provinces of that country and return to India on June 17, SGPC secretary Harbeant Singh said.
Railway authorities said 1,000 Sikh devotees were granted visa to visit Pakistan of which 490 devotees travelled through a specially run Samjhauta Express train on Sunday while remaining batch of devotees would go on Monday.
