What Do You Really Know About Jashodaben Modi?

Okay, the cat's out of the bag; so you know Narendra Modi has a wife tucked away somewhere in Rajosana village in Gujarat. Jashodaben, a name we had only 'never' heard before, has suddenly become the talk of the town (or should we say the nation). But what do you really know about the BJP prime ministerial candidate's wife? Here's introducing Jashoben Chimanlal Modi...


1) Jashodaben Modi married Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi at the age of 17. The couple separated after about three years, but were apparently together for barely three months during this period.

2) Jashoda quit school once she and Modi tied the knot, but her husband was never too thrilled about that and always told her to go back and complete her education.

3) After she and Modi separated, Jashoda went back to school and completed her SSC. She then did her teacher's training and went on to become a school teacher teaching grades one to five.

4) The simple 62-year-old lost her mother at the age of two, and her father a couple of years after completing her studies.

5) She has now retired and lives on a pension of Rs.14000 per month.

6) Jashoda starts her day around 4 AM and spends her time mostly in prayer.

7) She reads everything she can about Narendra Modi in the news - his interviews, articles et al, and believes that one day he will be Prime Minister of India.

8) Even though Modi left and never once tried to get in touch with Jashodaben, she has never badmouthed the PM candidate to the media, and still continues to wish him well.
