A homecoming of sorts

Call it the return of the prodigal native. Vidya Balan, who hails from the family of Tamil Brahmins settled in Kerala, has snubbed the south film industry for a long time. The snub was the result of the ‘jinxed’ title she was tagged with after the failure of her first Malayalam film, Chakram. Later she was dropped from her first Tamil film as well.

But now the same industry has been beckoning the actress. Of late, particularly after her stellar performances in Paa and Ishqiya, Vidya has been getting a lot of film and endorsement offers from the south.

She is making a return to the industry with a song appearance in director Santosh Sivan’s film Urumi. Vidya’s item will have her dancing to a fusion of modern and classical dance forms. Vidya will train under an expert and will also have her regular choreographer from Mumbai helping her out.

After this song, Vidya is looking forward to do a full-fledged role in a Malayalam film to fulfil her parents’ wish of seeing her in a Mallu flick.
