Hyderabad: Employees of state-owned Road Transport Corp (RTC) yesterday decided to continue their indefinite strike for a separate Telangana state, as buses remained off the roads for the 21st day.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of various unions met here to review the situation and resolved to continue the strike until the central government promises to form Telangana.
The JAC leaders warned the government of serious consequences if it tried to create a split among the employees. The JAC also demanded the government pay salaries and festival advance to all the striking employees.
More than 10,000 RTC buses remained off the road in Hyderabad and nine other districts of Telangana region for the 21st day as 60,000 drivers and other employees continued the strike.
According to RTC officials, the strike is causing a daily loss of Rs70 million (Dh5.38 million) to the corporation.
The authorities are operating 600 buses in Hyderabad and some other parts of Telangana with the help of contract and private workers.
In the state-owned Singareni Collieries, the employees continued their strike for the 27th day.
Coal production in its 50 mines in four districts has been disrupted.
The strike by coal workers has affected power generation in thermal power stations, causing a power shortage in the state.
