sikhs and hindu mythology.

I have always believed that Sikhism stance about hindu mythology is that of disdain....

....and denial but today’s Hukamnama got me thinking.

Baki sabh ki sochde ?

People fail not to see that their opinion about the world is also
a confession of their character.

Mythology of the other always is seen with disdain by the Muslims too
but Islam itself has not been immune to Muhammads history getting
mythologised. Ditto for Christianity.

The Sikh who disdain Hindu mythology are a small minority anyway.
For they know that Sikh history itself is one.

Thanks

you will find tons of refrences to hindu and islamic figures in SGGS,

so any sikh that trys to disdain and deny, really doesn't know what they are talking about and aren't sikh at all, but unfortuanlty sepratisit exist in every religion....

i duno it must be something in the water..lol

Bulleshah the problem is bigger than you think!

Sorry but I think you are wrong here. Hindu mythology was never a denial or anything in Sikhism and nor even Muslim mythology. The denial was of caste system, idol worshiping, crude ways of meeting god, superstitions, gender in equivalence etc.

Infact in SGGS, you will find reference to Shiv, Vishnu, Brahma, Kuran, Ram, Raavan and others as well.

From Japji Saahib, baani of Guru Nanak Dev ji

Gur Mukh Nadan Gurmukh vedan, gurmukh reha samaayi
Gur Ishar Gur Gorakh barma, gur parbati mai.

The Guru's Word is the Sound-current of the Naad; the Guru's Word is the Wisdom of the Vedas; the Guru's Word is all-pervading.
The Guru is Shiva, the Guru is Vishnu and Brahma; the Guru is Paarvati and Lakhshmi.

Suniya ishar brahma ind
suniya mukh salahan mand
suniya jog jugat tan bhed
suniya sasat simrat ved
Nanak bhagta sada vigaas

Listening-Shiva, Brahma and Indra.
Listening-even foul-mouthed people praise Him.
Listening-the technology of Yoga and the secrets of the body.
Listening-the Shaastras, the Simritees and the Vedas.
O Nanak, the devotees are forever in bliss.
