NCB arrests peddler who drove from Jammu with 40 kg of charas
He stacked the consignment in cavities of the seat, door and LPG cylinder of a Maruti
The NCB arrested Jammu-based Gurmeet Singh and his Mumbai client Pyare Lal and seized 40 kg of charas worth Rs 4 crore from them on Tuesday.
The Bureau has also seized the car in which special cavities had been created for carrying the consignment.
NCB Zonal director Yashodhan Wanage confirmed the seizure of the contraband and the arrest of Gurmeet Singh (24) and Pyare Lal (50).
On Tuesday morning, the NCB laid a trap for the two and arrested them in Prabhadevi, where the charas was being exchanged.
Cash of Rs five lakh was also seized from them. Later in the day, the two were produced before a local court and have been remanded in NCB custody till May 14.
According to NCB sources, Gurmeet, an unemployed youth, used to stack charas in his Maruti car (DL8-CR460) and drive for less than three days to reach Mumbai. He was paid approximately Rs 50,000 for each trip. Gurmeet has confessed to the authorities that he had visited Mumbai twice before this trip.
NCB suspects that Gurmeet could be supplying charas to other cities also. Pyare Lal, according to NCB sources, has a past history in drug peddling and the illicit liquor business.
The sources said he was acting on behalf of someone else and will be interrogated about his accomplice in Mumbai.
Both accused have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Prevention) Act.
