Hyderabad: A group of eminent disciples of Satya Sai Baba, including retired IPS officers, former judges and prominent physicians, has exuded confidence that the spiritual figure will recover from his present ailments and go on to live up to the age of 96, as he had himself predicted a few years back.

Satya Sai Baba is now around 86 years old.

Former director general of Andhra Pradesh Police R Prabhakar Rao, former judge of Andhra Pradesh High Court Eshwar Prasad, Hyderabad's former commissioner of police V Appa Rao and many other members of the "Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Devotees Forum" told a press conference in Hyderabad that Baba was in his present condition because he had taken upon himself the suffering of one of his devotees.

"He is going to recover very soon", they said.

Prasad said he was a living example of the extraordinary powers of the Baba, who had cured him of paralysis in childhood and had always protected him.

Dr. M. Anil Kumar, former Chief Cardiac Surgeon of Sri Satya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Learning, and director, Narayana Hrudalaya Hospitals, Hyderabad, said only four organs of the Baba were not functioning normally.

"We have many cases in which patients have lived for 25 years on a ventilator", he said expressing confidence that the Baba will recover, and, quoting the doctors attending on the Baba, added: "He is not in a coma."

Former IPS officer R. Prabhakar Rao said it was his firm belief that Sai Baba would live up to the age of 96 years.

Others who addressed the press conference included former vice chancellor of the Agricultural University M. V. Rao, former chief commissioner of Income Tax P. R. Rao and H. S. D. Srinivas, director of human resources at LV Prasad Eye Institute.
