MURDER MOST FOUL: MAN BURNT ALONG WITH BIKE

Mohali October 4:
In a grusome incident, a Chandigarh resident was burnt alive along with his bike at Sawara village near Kharar after being doused with petrol on late Thursday night. Identified as Gurcharan Singh, 34, a resident of Sector 30D, the deceased used to run an electrical appliances shop in Kharar.
The ghastly act came to light after residents noticed the fire and informed the police. The locals found his half-burnt body covered in flames on the railway tracks on Thursday night at around 9 pm. Initially, the onlookers took it to be an accidental fire. When the police team reached the spot, they found that flames were emanating from tyres of the bike and the deceased was lying nearby, charred. “Except for his face, rest of the body was badly burnt,” said a police official.
Examining the body, cops noticed some injury marks on the head. As the crime site comes under the jurisdiction of Government Railway Police, officials called the local GRP team for further investigation. On thorough inspection of the site, cops also found red chillies. Officials investigating the case said it seemed that before setting the deceased on fire, assailants had subjected him to a severe thrashing.
His family members were left shell-shocked when the news reached them. An inconsolable Surjeet Kaur, Gurcharan’s mother, couldnot believe that someone had killed her son in such a brutal manner. Gurcharan, who got married just two months back, used to reach home by 7 pm everyday. According to neighbours, on Thursday when he did not turn up till 7.15 pm, his wife Jyoti had called him up and he told her that he was already in Mohali and would soon reach home.
“It is intriguing how Gurcharan reached the railway line near Landran-Kharar road from Mohali. He might have been killed by some snatchers as they are on the prowl in Mohali,” said a neighbour. Gurcharan, a teetotaller, was running his shop in Kharar for the past 12 years and was known to be a congenial person. His gruesome murder left not his family, but all acquaintances shocked. They are trying to figure out as to why a simple man like him was killed so brutally?
SHO, GRP police station, Gyan Singh said Gurcharan was stabbed on the back of his neck after which it seems he was set afire. “We are looking into the matter after registering a case under Section 302 of the IPC,” he said. Meanwhile, after the postmortem, the body was handed over to the family.
