New variant aims at making the A-star appear sporty at a nominal premium.

Maruti Suzuki has announced the launch of a new variant in the A-star line-up, christened the Aktiv, which aims at breathing another gush of fresh air in the dwindling interest for the A-star hatchback. The A-star Aktiv has been given a sporty appearance in a bid to attract the youth and quite frankly, it ends up looking too busy and not something that will make you go ‘wow’.

The afterthought includes racy graphics (which look similar to the ones on the refreshed Tata Grande) and a contrasting red colour for the rear spoiler, outside rearview mirrors, fog-lamp over-plates and the beam that bears the registration plate. Since the Aktiv is built on top of the A-star VXi trim, you do not get alloy wheels or body coloured door handles. The B-pillar gets a black colour treatment which makes the glasshouse look seamless.

On the inside the seats have been given a red and beige colour combination. The steering wheel gets a matching cover, while the VXi trim gets additional elements like floor mats, keyless entry with a security system, rear parcel tray and door sill guards.

The additional features and the revised appearance come at a cost though. The A-star Aktiv is priced at a premium of Rs 14,990 over a corresponding VXi or VXi A/T variant.
