LG Optimus 3D 2, 7mm Ultra-thin Coming in 2012

An update to the LG Optimus 3D is currently in the pipeline and getting ready for a launch next year.

The new device, called the Optimus 3D 2, will likely be slimmed down to just 7mm thick.

In a recent interview with Pocket-lint, LG’s Henry Noh talked about the LG Optimus 3D now on shelves, and also provided some info on the upcoming device.

According to him, all smartphones next year are expected to be slimmer than today, though they will come with similar looks.
However, the LG Optimus 3D 2 should stand up in the crowd courtesy of its 3D capabilities, although it might not be the best looking phone on the market.
“These days, all the phones look the same. They have a huge screen – 4.3-inches is normal these days – and next year they’re moving even larger. And they have a fixed number of touch buttons. They’re the same thickness. They have the same camera. And even the same OS,” Henry Noh said.
“Next year, all the phones are going to be as thin as, let’s say, 6mm. You throw in 3D, and because of the thickness and stuff, it becomes 7mm. But I bet you 90 per cent of the population won’t know the difference.”
No specific release date for the upcoming handset has been announced until now, but LG will certainly unveil more on the matter as its availability approaches, so stay tuned.
