Lenovo has launched its flagship K900 Android smartphone in India for Rs 32,999. The company announced at a press event in Delhi that the K900 will be available at 3,000 Lenovo outlets from July onwards.

First seen at January’s Consumer Electronics Show, the K900 is definitely high end when you look at its hardware. There’s an Intel dual-core Clover Trail-based Atom Z2580 processor clocked at 2GHz, along with Intel graphics. The 5.5-inch full-HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS display is yet another standout element. In addition, there’s 2GB of RAM and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean to make the user experience lagfree. Lenovo has saddled its own UI customisations on top of stock Android, which includes a circular menu system on the homescreen.

The stylish K900 will soon be available in India

The phone comes with 16GB of internal storage and there’s a microSD card slot as well. The K900 features a unibody design and the construction materials used include stainless steel and polycarbonate. All in all, it’s a very slim device at just 6.9 mm in terms of thickness. But at 162 g, it’s not the lightest handset out there. The unibody design means it’s got a non-removable 2500 mAh battery.

The K900’s camera is a Sony-supplied Exmor BSI 13 megapixel sensor. As we have seen in the past, that’s a very capable shooter, but the f1.8 focal length lens makes it the first smartphone camera to offer such a wide aperture. There’s a 2 megapixel camera on the front, which also sports a wide-angle lens.

While the specs sheet certainly makes it an attractive smartphone, we feel the price tag could be its downfall. With quad-core phones and ones with larger batteries being released for nearly half the price of the K900, Lenovo could face a tough time convincing buyers to pick up its flagship.
