Iran wins Asian Paralympics title

Abu Dhabi: The Iran Paralympics team emerged champions in the Asian Paralympics 7-a-side soccer tournament which ended on Friday evening. Iran Paralympics team scored a 2-0 win over fourth-placed South Korea in the final group match to finish with an all-win record of 15 points from five games.

The Iranian team dominated play from kick-off but had to wait until the second half when Banham Sohrabi scored twice. In the other two final round matches of the evening, second-placed Australia trounced bottom-placed Jordan 10-3, while third-placed Singapore scored an equally impressive 10-3 over hosts UAE. Singapore's Mohammad Asheq scored a record super hat-trick of five goals to take his account to 10 goals and win the Golden Boot.

The Best Player award went to Banham Sohrabi, Mustafa Farouk got the Best Goalkeeper award, while the UAE team won the Team Spirit award.

Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, joined other dignitaries to witness the closing ceremony of the tournament, held under the auspices of Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Adviser to the National Security Council, Vice-Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and President of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
