Barely 24 hours after a boy’s body was recovered from his neighbour’s cupboard, Jalandhar police found the half-burnt body of an eight-year-old girl at a vacant plot a few metres away from her house in Gulmarg Colony in Jalandhar on Wednesday.
The migrant girl had gone missing two days ago. The body was half-naked and the hands had been chopped off. Police suspected it to be a case of ‘human sacrifice’. Three persons have been arrested in this connection.

On Tuesday, seven-year-old Gurpreet Chumer’s body was found in the almirah of his neighbour at Malko village near Lambra on the Jalandhar-Nakodar road. The victim’s hands and legs were tied and mouth was stuffed with cloth, besides injury marks on the head.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP-I) Jasvir Singh said preliminary reports suggest that it is a case of human sacrifice. Police said surveillance camera footage from a nearby factory showed two migrants dumping the body of the girl at the plot on Tuesday. They were taken into custody.
The accused, identified as Gunjan, Prem Chand, and Dhananjay Kumar, stayed near the victim’s house.
The ADCP said the autopsy, to be held on Thursday, will reveal whether the girl’s hands were chopped off or eaten by some animal.
