HIMACHAL COLLEGE PRINCIPAL SUSPENDED ON SC DIRECTIVE

Shimla March 31:

Suresh Sankhyan, who resigned as principal of a medical college after a student Aman Kachroo died allegedly due to ragging, was on Monday suspended by the Himachal Pradesh government following a direction of the Supreme Court.

"Suresh Sankhyan of Dr Rajendra Prasad Medical College in Kangra district has been put under suspension following the apex court order," a spokesman of the state health department said. The Principal had been indicted in the enquiry report submitted to the state government by Additional District Magistrate Kangra last week.

The report had said that while all those who have held the post of principal over years should be held responsible for tragic death of Aman Kachroo on March 8, Suresh Sankhyan who has been a regular principal since April 2008 is "most specially responsible" for failure to take strong action against ragging in the college.

Others indicted in the report include the warden and the Manager of the hostel who are likely to be issued show cause notice officials said. The Supreme Court today said Sankhyan, who resigned as principal, should not be allowed to take classes also and be "forthwith" suspended.
