HEROIN WORTH RS 90 CR SEIZED, 3 ARRESTED


Amritsar April 26:
The district police has seized 18 kg of heroin valued at Rs 90 crore in the international market and arrested three smugglers along with a .32-bore revolver and five cartridges.
Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, SSP, told mediapersons here today that they had been on the trail of Jagjit Singh Havelian village, Mahavir Singh of Dhun village near Harike Pattan and Kripal Singh of Guru ki Wadali village in this connection.
He said all three of them had received the contraband from Pakistan through Fazilka. Three cases had been registered in this regard. The SSP revealed that the consignment was sent to the Indian side from the Khem Karan segment from across the border by Bhola Ghurkiwala of Gazal village, Pakistan, through his conduit Boota.
The district police chief said the police tracked down the calls made through their mobile phone which led to the arrest of the accused. He said a Ford Ikon car with Jalandhar registration number was also impounded in which majority of the consignment was concealed. More than 100 policemen and senior officers were involved in the 12-hour-
long operation.
