COUNTERFEIT NOTES WORTH RS 10 LAKH SEIZED, 3 HELD


Amritsar August 18:
A BSF patrolling party seized fake Indian currency notes (FICN) with Rs 10 lakh face value after the arrest of three cross-border smugglers here.
The FICN in Rs 500 denomination was smuggled from Pakistan and was wrapped in a plastic envelope, which had AFD departmental store, Liberty Market (Lahore) printed on it, and was hidden in a bag full of pears.
BSF DIG Mohammad Acqul told mediapersons here that those arrested were Bicker Singh, Gainda Singh and Harjit Singh, who were bringing pears from an orchard situated beyond the border fence. The fake Indian currency notes was recovered while frisking of the bags at the border gates.
Two mobile phones and a motorcycle was also recovered from the cross-border smugglers. During preliminary interrogation the accused revealed that the consignment of fake Indian currency noteswas dropped by the Pakistan-based smugglers a couple of days ago, which was picked by Bicker Singh and Gainda Singh, who were to deliver the same to Harjit Singh.
BSF did not rule out possibility of involvement of more persons in cross-border smuggling of fake Indian currency notes.
