The highly anticipated international release of Punjabi film Toofan Singh will take place on Friday 4th August 2017 following a one-year postponement triggered by the refusal of clearance by the Indian Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC).

Toofan Singh is the story of a young Sikh boy growing up in Punjab during the turbulent 1980’s. The story charters his pursuit for justice, survival and equality for all. Devastated by the deteriorating law and order situation, Toofan Singh is forced to fight against corruption, crime and brutality in order to protect society for one and all.

The groundbreaking feature film is the directorial debut of Baghal Singh of Royal Cine Arts and stars renowned Punjabi singer Ranjit Bawa in a project which was his original acting debut. Initially scheduled for release on July 15, 2016, Toofan Singh was postponed after the Indian Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) refused clearance citing that “the film depicts the anti-national elements”. Despite months of sustained legal wrangling, clearance for Toofan Singh’s is still being sought.

“We have taken every care to ensure Toofan Singh is an accurate and well balanced film which has been responsibly and professionally researched and produced. The expertise and cinematic techniques we have utilised are unmatched and will take Punjabi cinema to new heights. After lengthy legal proceedings, on February 15, 2017 the CBFC found in favour of allowing a fresh submission of the film on the basis of inaccuracies in the initial application. We are confident that the new submission will be successful and that Toofan Singh can be released in India at the same time as the international release. However, the international release will still be taking place on 4th August 2017 due to the overwhelming international demand,” stated director Baghal Singh of Royal Cine Arts.
