Chandigarh October 27:

Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Shivraj Patil today inaugurated the second Chandigarh National Crafts Mela at Kalagram here.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, ''We, in India, are the inheritors of a great historical experience in organising a multi-lingual, multi-ethnic, multi-religious, multi-caste, multi-regional society''.

Mr Patil said that this mega event had been conceived and planned to promote a better understanding and to reach out to each other to ''unify our diverse and rich cultural ethos to demonstrate the strength of India.'' He said the mela provided a right platform to the artists and artisans of the North-East region to project their rich cultural heritage and an opportunity to display their innovations and expertise.
