Union Minister for State of Ministry of External affairs Preneet Kaur said that erratic monsoon in several parts of the country and especially in northern States; the Centre Government has come forward to rescue the farmers.
Talking to reporters she said that Centre has shown big heart for the farmers and it was duty of the State Government to bear the 50 per cent burden of diesel consumed by farmers for paddy transplantation. She was here to address series of election meetings in the favour of Congress candidate Deepinder Singh Dhillon for the by-election of Banur Assembly segment which was fall vacant after the demise of SAD Captain Kanwaljit Singh. Dhillon has been giving tough fight to Captain son Jasjeet Singh Bunny.
She said that on every Rs 10 given by the State Government, Centre will give Rs 5 to the State Government. She however, came down heavily on SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal for describing the Centre’ announcement of 100 MW additional power and 50 per cent diesel subsidy for Punjab as ‘too little and too late’.
Preneet said that in last 30 months rule of SAD-BJP not a single MW power was produced by them. She mocked on the claim of Sukhbir Singh Badal that Punjab will be power plus in three years of their tenure. She lamented that only 6 months was left in his claim where were the thermal plants for which he was day dreaming.
She said that we have brought an additional 100 MW power from the central pool to Punjab for timely completion of paddy transplantation and to protect the already sown crops. The Centre also announced to bear 50 per cent of subsidy on diesel offered to farmers by States. And as a contingent measure to deal with deficient rainfall, it said all exports of non-basmati rice and wheat had been stopped.
She said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Cabinet was worried on monsoon situation and kharif sowing, she said that weak and erratic monsoon in several parts of the country had led to late sowing of important kharif crops, including paddy and bajra, which may adversely affect the yield. However, allaying fears of shortage of food grains, she said stock position was comfortable and termed the spiraling prices of pulses a temporary phenomenon.
Earlier speaking during the meeting, she also criticised Punjab Government role for not fully implementing NERGS in the State. Speaking on the occasion former Punjab Minister and MLA Dakala Lal Singh said that SAD and BJP who both running the show in state was responsible for the condition of Punjab farmers and it was the duty of State Government to give power to farmers. He however reminded that in previous Congress Government power was no issue for us and we have made available power for farmers and everyone in Punjab.
